DELGADO, ANNA MARIE R. Challenges and Opportunities Encountered by Social Workers as Affected by Their Roles and Functions in Selected Government and Non-Government Adoption Agencies. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. April 2017. Adviser: Merlie C. Nahilat, Rsw, MSSW.
The study was conducted in selected government and non-government adoption agencies in the province of Cavite. The three non-government agencies were: Little
Angels Home Inc. located at Mendez Cavite; Samaritan's Place Inc. located at Silang
Cavite, and Casa Dei Bambini Home for Girls Inc. located also in Silang Cavite. The
Government Agencies were located in City Social Welfare Development Office of
Dasmarinas City, General Trias City and Tagaytay City Cavite. It was conducted from January 2017 to identify the challenges and opportunities encountered by social workers as affected by their roles and functions in adoption agencies. Specifically, the study aimed to 1.) identify the roles and functions of social workers in adoption agencies. 2.) determine the challenges and opportunities encountered by the social workers during the process of adoption. 3.) ascertain the roles and functions of social workers that affect the challenges and opportunities they encountered in adoption agency/process. The research utilized the qualitative method through interviewing and recording process. The
participants of the study were six (6) registered social workers who have at least three (3) years of experienced handling cases of adoption.
The social workers utilized different roles and functions in the field of adoption and encountered different challenges and opportunities. Case manager is the major role of the social worker in the field of adoption agencies. They also performed as broker,
initiator, negotiator, educator, coordinator, and group facilitator of their clients in the field of adoption agencies.
As for the social workers working in the different fields of practice, they have to deal with the clients with the social work principles that every human being has inherent worth and dignity. Thus, the social workers in the field of adoption also deal with the nature of family love, care and support in the development of psychosocial spiritual human being of the child.
On the other hand, case management in the field of adoption cases is a very challenging task to do. They are all experiencing hardship in doing proper and right case study report of the child. It required patience and compassion in doing case study report of the child. The different challenges or problems include lack of psychologist who can easily prepare the documents to comply with the needed requirements, lack of proper communication between LGU and private social workers in terms of the papers needed in the case of adoption and much of requirements needed to comply in order to be declared the child as legally available for adoption.
The social workers working in the field of adoption must embrace the work with love and with the guiding foundation of social work principles, values, attributes, and approaches. Social workers believed in social work ethical principle of inherent worth and dignity of every individual that may have the full rights afforded to each individual.
