The study was conducted to (l) document the herbal medicines commonly used by the local folks Mendez, Indang and Tagaytay, (2) determine how they were prepared and used for common ailments, and (3) determine the total number of herbolarios in selected towns of Cavite.
A total of 300 respondents coming from nine different barangays of Niendez, Indang and Tagaytay were interviewed.
The respondents from three upland towns of Cavite used herbal medicines as treatment to common ailments. Oregano (8%) was the most popular herbal medicine. The second common plant was damong maria (6.3%) > kalamansi (6%) > atsnete = katakataka = lagundi (5.6%) > mayana (5.3%) > bawang (5%) > ampalaya makabuhay — sambong (4.6%) bunga = pansit-pansjtan = sampalok (4%) > laya (3.6%) > kulitis — makahiya = tanglad (3%) > abukado alagaw (2.6%) > mais (2.3%) > akapulko (2%) > alugbati (1.3%) kasoy = herba buena (1%) > kamoteng Kahqy (0.6%).
Among the three methods of administration, boiling (50.6%) was the most commonly used preparation > crushing (21%) > extraction (150/0).
It was learned that the flu-ee upland towns of Cavite have 15 herbolarios disunbuied as follows: Tagaytay (7), Mendez (5), and Indang (3).
