GOMEZ, NORMAN LEO ROLLON. "PHILIPPINE TEXTILE RESEARCH INSTITUTE (PTRI) SERICULTURE PROJECT LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET." A Case Study, Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Don Severino Agricultural College, April 1995. Adviser: Mr. Florindo Ilagan A three-month field study was conducted at the Philippines Textile Research Institute (PTRI) Sericulture Project in La Trinidad Benguet. The study aimed to enable the student to apply gained knowledge, skills and tools in agribusiness management to real life situation. data and information were gathered through observation and interviews with the OIC, supervisor and laborers. Relevant This study covered the activities of the firm. These included the harvesting of mulberry leaves and cocoons, feeding of silkworm, bed cleaning, defrosting, drying and packaging. The focus of production is on a research- oriented project of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) which is on the developing stage. Problems identified include marketing because it is monopolized by Ang Puno Silk, Inc. and production of mulberry leaves during hot and rainy season. These can be solved through signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) where in the conditions of marketing of cocoons are clearly specified and cocoons can be converted into raw silk and sell them to garment factories or firms which are using raw silk as raw materials. In the production of mulberry leaves during rainy season, making of drainage canal and planting of different varieties of trees will solve problems such soil erosion and strong winds while having adequate supply- water through pump irrigation is recommended during hot of season.
