Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite April 2017. Adviser: Ms. Erica Charmane B. Hernandez.<br/>This study described the experience of the contestants in the Philippine noontime variety shows' LGBT segments namely, Eat Bulaga's Super Sireyna, It's Showtime's I Am Pogay and That's My Tomboy. It aimed to describe the demographic profile of the informants in terms of name, age, gender, educational attainment, and social status. It also aimed to determine the informants' reasons, perspectives, experiences, and influences in joining the segments. This study was conducted from November 2015 to February 2016.<br/>This study used a phenomenological qualitative design. Phenomenological approach was used in the study to determine the demographic profile of the contestants and their reasons, perspectives, experiences, and influences in joining the Philippine noontime variety shows' LGBT segments. This study used in-depth interview to determine the contestants' phenomenology in joining noontime variety shows LGBT segments in the Philippines. The interview guide questions were developed by the researchers to address the experiences of the contestants.<br/>Based on the results, fifteen informants were all members of LGBT community. Five informants were lesbian, another five were gays, there were four transgender people while there was only one bisexual person. The study revealed that out of fifteen informants, seven of them had an age ranging from twenty-one to twenty-five years old,<br/>while six of them were between twenty-six to thirty and two of them were thirty-two and forty years old. The study revealed that the informants had different reasons, perspective but shared some experiences in joining the Philippine Noontime Variety Shows' LGBT Segments. Also, this revealed that noontime variety show segments influence the informants for they become open to other LGBT people, gained self-love, positive self-esteem, friends, recognition, community respect and family closure after joining the said segments.<br/> |
