AYON, JOJIE PEARL. A. and MARBIT, MARICAR Q. An Analysis of Poverty Situation in Indang, Cavite and Its Implication to Social Work Practice. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Adviser: Mrs. Merlie C. Nahilat. <br/>The study was conducted from November 2018 to January 2019 in selected barangays in Indang, Cavite. This study generally aimed to analyze the poverty situation in Indang, Cavite and its implication to social work practice. Specifically, the objectives were to : 1) describe the demographic trend of poverty in Indang; 2) define poverty based on the perspectives of MSWDO officer and community leaders; 3) discuss the poverty situation in identified poor barangay in Indang, Cavite; and 4) discuss the implication of poverty to social work practice. This study used qualitative research design and descriptive research method and focused on the different barangays in Indang, which included Barangay Agus - os, Banaba Lejos, Buna Lejos II, Calumpang Lejos, Guyam Munti, Limbon, Lumampong Halayhay, and Poblacion III. These barangays got the highest percentage on total number of 4Ps beneficiaries over the total population in their barangay. The participants were eight chairpersons and one Social Worker. <br/>Data were gathered from the Municipal Social Welfare Development Officer. Through interview, the poverty was also defined according to the perspective and view of the Municipal Social Welfare Development officer and the community leaders as those who oversee and supervise the situation of the municipality and community. They have also served as the participants. The study includes the discussion of the poverty situation of the identified poor communities. The discussion includes the opinion on the causes of poverty and the means or solution in alleviating the poverty. On the last part of the study was the discussion of the implication of the poverty situation to the social work practice. The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office being the welfare arm of Indang, Cavite is providing programs and services to support the needs of poor residents by identifying possible beneficiaries for their 4 Ps. Aside for this, they have programs and services for the different sector to augment their needs. <br/>As a result, it was found out that there are marks of poverty inside every barangay that needs to be addressed. It was identified that the cause of poverty among the Barangay is unemployment and difficulty in farming or agricultural matters. The lack of funding is also a big problem in providing enough for the medical and livelihood program. Based on the data gathered by the researcher, the issue on poverty specifically in Indang have not nullified. It is an issue which cannot be dispersed easily. Also, even the barangay chairperson themselves cannot claim that their respective barangay have overcome the issue on poverty. There are still people whose status of living can be classified as the poorest of the poor.<br/> |
