MOJICA, ANDRBLBE S., TIBAYAN, MYRNA TERESA L., VDALLON,
DIANA MARIB G., and VIDALLON, LBNY G-, applied Research IV, (General Science Curriculum), Laboratory School, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, March 2000 "EXTRACTION OF DYE FROM BANANA STALK" (Musa Sapientum)
Advisers: Mrs. Elsa Vida, Mrs. Dulce Ramos
In order to know the dyeing potential of banana stalks, this study entitled "Extraction of Dye from Banana Stalk" was conducted with the following objectives: compare the efficiency of the produced water-based dye from the commercial dye; compare the efficiency of the produced coconut water-based dye from the commercial dye; compare the efficiency of the two produced dyes with different concentration based on fastness to wash and light on textiles and determine the chemical composition of banana stalk extract.
The study used three treatments. Two of which are banana extract solution; Tl (25 kg. banana stalks + 7.5 L of water), T2 (25 kg. Of banana stalks + 7.5 L of coconut water); and a Control Treatment (commercial dye), which serves as the basis of comparison.
In order to determine the effectiveness of these treatments, the dyed textiles were subjected to the light fastness and wash fastness test.
Thirty respondents evaluated the physical properties of the textiles based on their fastness, odor and general acceptability. One-way Analysis of Variance and Duncan's
Multiple Range Test (DMRT) were used in analyzing the data
In terms of fastness, analysis of mean scores showed that Control Treatment has no significant difference to T! but has significant difference to T2, Tl has significant difference to T2. It also showed that Control Treatment is superior to the other treatments.
On the other hand, in terms of odor, mean scores showed that Control Treatment has significant difference to Tl and T2 while Tl has no significant difference to T2.
Control treatment is found to be superior compared to other two treatments.
Mean scores for general acceptability revealed that Control Treatment has significant difference to Tl and T2 while Tl has no significant difference to T2. It also showed that Control Treatment gained the highest score.
Chemical evaluation of banana extract showed that it contains 0.06% Sodium chloride (NaCl). Its acidity is 5.56.
|
