April 2015. Adviser: Ms. Vivian D. Rogando. <br/><br/> The study was conducted from November 2014 to March 2015 in the community of Barangay Urdaneta, Magallanes, Cavite to determine and understand the reasons for being an out-of-school youth and their goals in life as well as to propose an intervention plan. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1.) find the reasons for being an out-of-school youth; 2.) find the goals in life of the out-of-school youth; and 3.) propose an intervention plan. The research is a Qualitative study. Approval from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of Magallanes and Barangay Urdaneta was sought. After with an interview with the barangay officials, heath workers and participants, home visitations, and focus group discussion among the participants were conducted to gather pertinent information. There were fifty (50) out-of-school youth in the community. However, only five (5) participants were selected for interview and ten (10) participants for the focus group discussion. Most of the participants were in high school but did not continue studying. They stopped because of financial problem, they have too many siblings, and they decided to work because in their early age, they saw the need to work. On the other hand, the goals of the participants were to graduate in bachelor degree, to own properties, to work abroad or have a stable job, and to help their parents. <br/><br/> In determining the reasons for being an out-of-school youth and goals in life of the participants, an intervention plan was proposed through the participation of the participants and it is a vocational training plan. The interests of the participants were to develop, enhance and elaborate the knowledge and skills that they have. This is for them to gain the composure, courage and self-determination they needed the most to progress. <br/> |
