The research focused on identifying the marketing and financial constraints of Invention-based Enterprises (Ibe’s) which is one of the important and critical sectors in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Philippines. It specifically tackled the nature of the "Invento-preneur" — inventor-innovator-entrepreneur, the standardization of such product invention and macroeconomics consideration that interplays in the eventual failure or success of not only doing business.<br/>A total of 17 Invention-based Enterprises were carefully studied and examined for this research. The 17 enterprises were divided into two groups: 10 were provided with funding assistance of the Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) which did not succeed and seven were thriving but successful enterprises. The purpose of investigating the two groups was to establish a comparison and see the relation between them. For the identified delinquent Ibe’s, to protect their privacy, data as to the title of the inventions, year when the assistance has been provided, and the amount of the financial assistance provided were presented in the study. Data were gathered through interviews with the inventors and from the available records provided by DOST-TAPI which is the agency responsible for providing support for the Invento-preneurs. Based on descriptive-analysis, Invention-based Enterprises constraints were centered on the following elements: the Invento-preneurs generally lacked in management strategies; the product inventions generally lacked innovation, marketing and promotion; and lastly, the incentives and support to the invento-preneurs that were insufficient to address their needs.<br/> |
