Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2016. Adviser: Ms. Marisol U. Negrosa. This qualitative study generally aimed to determine the presence of peace journalism during the media coverage of Maguindanao Massacre and Mamasapano Incident in the Philippines. Specifically, it aimed to determine: the importance of peace journalism as perceived by journalists in the Philippines; the characteristics of peace journalism as perceived by journalists in the Philippines and the current situation of peace journalism in the Philippine media as perceived by journalists. The study had two phases. On the first phase, the researchers interviewed two Filipino journalists who were knowledgeable about the Maguindanao Massacre, Mamasapano Incident, and peace journalism. The chosen informants were Rene Acosta, a writer from Business Mirror, and Bam Alegre, a GMA news reporter. On the second phase, the researchers tabulated 10 indicators of peace journalism from the result of the interview then analyzed the selected articles about the Maguindanao Massacre (November 24 to November 27, 2009) and the Mamasapano Incident (January 27 to January 30, 2015) from the 3 broadsheets namely, The Philippine Star, Philippine Daily Inquirer, and Manila Bulletin. The results revealed that peace journalism is not really practiced in the Philippines due to the traditional way of reporting which focuses on answering the 5 was and I H. Some requirements or indicators of peace journalism had been evident though. Peace journalism is about getting all the angles of a story that involves a lot of factors. It is used to minimize and prevent conflict. This study sought to help media practitioners and future media practitioners to broaden their knowledge in the world of journalism by practicing peace journalism.
