Abstract: SEVERO, CHRISTINA R. and VALERIO, SARAH FAITH G. Communication Patterns among Families of Children in Special Education at Sta. Cruz Elementary School, Dasmarifias, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Ms. Lisette D. Mendoza. The purpose of this study is to identify the communication patterns among families with special children enrolled in Special Education curriculum at Sta. Cruz Elementary School, Dasmarinas, Cavite. Communication patterns were determined using The Revised Communication Pattern Instrument (modified). Twenty three participants have children with autism, 21 participants have children with Developmental Delay, 16 children with Cerebral Palsy, and 10 children with Down syndrome. Fifty six have high conversation and 14 of the participants have low conversation. Forty five have consensual family type. Eleven have pluralistic family. Ten are laissez-faire family and four have protective family type. Majority of the participants allow their children to take part in their family decision making and daily family conversation. The children of the participants take part in family decision making but parents are the final decision-makers about important issues. Majority of the participants are high in conformity. The participants allowed their children to take part in family decision making. The children of the participants take part in daily family conversation. All participants are high in conversation because the participants allowed their children to interact in their daily conversation. Majority of the participants of Sta. Cruz Elementary School have consensual family type. The families of the children in Special Education curriculum of Sta. Cruz Elementary School, Dasmarinas, Cavite have high conversation and high conformity . When it comes to conversation orientation, most of the participants have high conversation. In conformity orientation, most of the participants have high conformity. In accordance with the results of the study, it was revealed that the disability of the students in SPED at Sta. Cruz Elementary School does not affect their family communication pattern. This studv is recommended For the family of children with disability to determine the communication pattern of their family. The researchers would like to encourage children with special needs to continuously participate in the family decision making and familv conversation thus improve thew communication pattern. The researchers would recommend the future researchers to conduct a research related to this topic focusing on other disabilities, like the hearing or speaking ilnpaired. It is recommended for the school administration to support other researches that has are also related with special children The researcher would like to encourage the parents who have children enrolled in special education curiculum to have enough time to c with their children so that their communication skill will improve
