Oquendo The study was conducted to determine the coaching style preference of basketball athletes in universities and colleges in Cavite participated in Southern Luzon Colleges and universities athletic association (SLCUAA). Specifically, the study described the profile of the participants in terms of sex, age, year level and no. of playing years as a varsity and its difference between their preferred coaching styles. The Participants were 60 from four universities and colleges in Cavite participated in Southern Luzon Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SLCUAA). They were selected using the Accidental Sampling technique. A survey questionnaire was used to gather the data needed in the study. The greatest proportion of the basketball athletes was male and was 19 to 20 and above years of age. The greatest proportion of no. of years playing as a varsity was 3 to 4 & above. The researchers used ANOVA formula to determine the number of participants. The main instrument used was adapted to Leadership Scale for Sports (LSS) develop by P. Chelladuria & S. D. Saleh. The study made used of descriptive design of research. These data were subjected to statistical treatment. Most of the athletes much preferred the democratic and rewarding style of coaching with the overall mean of 1.62 and 1.71. But on the other hand, they only preferred the social support and training-oriented style of coaching with overall mean of 2.05 and 1.92. And they less preferred the autocratic style of coaching of the overall mean of 3.86. Results showed that the hypothesis is to be accepted which states that there is no significant difference in the preferred coaching style of the participants when they are grouped according to demographic characteristic.
