Abstract: ARBIS, MARY ANNE and INFORTUNO, ACE. "Design and Development of a Microcontroller-Based Examination Booklet Vending Machine". Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2005. Adviser: Mr. Bienvenido C. Sarmiento Jr. The design and development of microcontroller-based examination booklet vending machine was constructed at Tanza, Cavite. The study, generally aimed to design and develop a microcontroller-based examination booklet vending machine capable of accepting 1-peso and 5-peso denominations, separate booklets individually, vary the price of the booklets and return change for excess amount. The hardware of the system consisted of the two coin acceptors for accepting 1-peso and 5-peso coins, a keypad that would input the number of booklets to be dispensed and to confirm or cancel the transaction 1 -peso and 5-peso coin changers that were responsible for giving the change, the circuit that contained the programmed P1C16F877 which controlled the operation of the whole system, dip switch for setting the booklet counter and the price of the booklet, rotary table dispenser which 0 used to dispense the booklets in the machine, and the liquid crystal display (LCD) that displayed message to , 15 guide the users in every transaction. C programming language was used to develop the software of the system. The software instructed the microcontroller to control the operation of the whole system. The design project was evaluated at the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering, College of Engineering and Information Technology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite on March 7-10, 2005 with the presence of the Design Project Adviser, Technical Critic, other faculty members and students. During the evaluation the machine was tested to ensure that it worked properly and to identify the different problems regarding the design. The machine was also tested by dispensing all the 50 examination booklets in the machine. This was done in 10 trials and the average time to dispense all the booklets was recorded in every trial. Average time showed that the time to dispense all the booklets was 2 minutes and 34 seconds. After the evaluation, the study was found to be satisfactory.
