GALIT, LIZA C. Applied Research IV (Agricultural Science Curriculum) Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1989. EFFECTS OF POPULATION DENSITY ON FLOWER PRODUCTION OF AFRICAN DAISY. Adviser; Mrs. Editha G. Reyes
The study, "Effect of Population Density on Flower Production of African Daisy," was conducted at the project area of Mr. Celso Crucido of the Don Severino Agricultural College, Indangm,Cavite from July to November, 1988.
This study was conducted to determine the effects of planting distance of flower production of African daisy.
A 400 sq. m. land was divided into 16 equal blocks. A randomized complete block design was used with four replications.
Suckers of African daisy were planted at different distances which were as follows: T, - 20 x 20 cms; To 25 x 25 cms; Tz - 30 x 35 cms; and T, - 35 x 35 cms.
Data gathered were the following:
a) average number of flowers per plant
b) average number of days from planting to flowering
c) average weight of the flowers
da) average length of the peduncles
e) average diameter of the flowers
A significant result was attained in the average number of flowers per plant. T, obtained the largest number of flowers of 1.9. This was followed by Ty» Tz and Tos
The shortest average period from planting to flowering was attained by T; of 116.1 days, though not a significant result was shown in the analysis of variance.
The highest average weight of the flowers is 12.55 gms which was obtained by Treatment 4 and a highly significant result was recorded.
A significant result was obtained in the average length of the peduncle and average diameter of the flowers. Flowers produced by plants in Treatment 4 have the longest length of peduncle of 41.91 cms while flowers produced by plants in treatments 3 and 4 have the largest diameter of 10.54 cms.
It is recommended therefore that Ty (35 x 35 cms) spacing be used. Evenly distributed @f)water, sunlight and organic substances contribute to a better shaped plants produced.
