BUSTAMANTE, KIMBERLY A. Life Stories of Solo Parents of Children with Sensory Impairments in Tagaytay City. Undergraduate Thesis.Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Imelda R. Filart, RPm.
This study was conducted from December 2018 to February 2019 in Tagaytay City to determine the life stories of solo parents of children with sensory impairments. This study aimed to determine the challenges of solo parents of children with sensory impairment and to find out the effects of challenges in their family. Qualitative design was utilized in this study. An interview was conducted and narrative method was used to determine the challenges encountered by the said participants and to reveal the responses in accordance to the objectives of the study. Eight solo parents of children with sensory impairments were selected purposively to serve as the participants of this study. This research study sought to narrate the life stories of solo parents of children with sensory impairments and the result of this study was sectioned by narratives. Some solo parents also said that solo parent families faced more challenges than traditional families. In connection with this, these individuals carry the full burden of parenthood without the support of another individual as would be seen in a traditional family structure, and subsequently feel the pressure of these expectation. Majority of the solo parents encountered the same challenges. All of them said that being a solo parent of children with sensory impairment is difficult. It is highly recommended that the City Social Welfare and Development Officer Tagaytay City give time and support to the solo parents of children with sensory impairment.
