Abstract: ALCANTARA, ALA VIKTORIA N., Backyard Broiler Production in Bancod, Indang, Cavite: An Entrepreneurial Development Project. Entrepreneurial Development Project Report. Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship major in Animal Production. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Irvin dL. Matel, DVM. The project is about backyard broiler raising, a sole proprietorship enterprise owned by the student entrepreneur, Ala Viktoria N. Alcantara. The project consisted of two batches. The first batch was conducted from November 20 to December 19, 2018 in Barangay Bancod, Indang, Cavite for a period of 30 days. In the same place, the second batch of production which lasted for 35 days was conducted on January 8 to February 10, 2019. The project was conducted for the student entrepreneur to: (1) develop entrepreneurial skills in broiler production; (2) determine the actual cost and return of raising 200 broilers; (3) acquire hands-on experience in broiler raising; and (4) realize profit after the production period. Birds in both batches were accorded the proper care and management. The first batch of broilers consisted of 105 heads posted an average initial weight of 48 g. After 30 days, their average final live weight was 1.74 kg and average dressed weight was 1.22 kg. The birds had an average feed consumption of 2.77 kg which led to a feed efficiency of 1.64. The harvest recovery recorded was 98.09 percent. The total cost of production of the first batch of birds was P14, 532.58. The total sales amounted to P19, 590.3. The computed net income was P5, 057.72, equivalent to a return on investment (ROI) of 34.80 percent. The break-event point by weight and by price computed were 1.01 kg and P141.09, respectively The second batch of birds were lighter than the first batch with an average initial weight of 42 g. However, after extending the growing period up to 35 days and extending feeding of booster and starter feeds, the birds exhibited an average final body weight of 1.77 kg on live weight basis and 1.20 kg on dressed weight basis. The average feed consumption was 2.72 kg and the computed feed efficiency was 1.56. There was only 0.97 percent mortality which meant a 99.03 percent harvest recovery. The second batch of production had a total expenses of P13, 812, total sales of P17, 971.8, resulting to a net income of P4, 159.8. The computed ROI was 30.13 percent. The break-even point by weight was only 0.97 kg and the break-even point by price was P135.41. In both batches, there were no problem encountered though birds in the second batch were observed to have slower growth compared to the first batch of birds. Nevertheless, both batches were profitable.
