Mercado This study was conducted to find out the self-esteem in accordance to the demographic profile of first year students with single-parent of Trece Martires City National High School, SY 2006-2007. It aimed to (a) determine the demographic profile of the respondents such as gender, gender of the single-parent, number of years of having a single-parent, educational attainment of the single-parent, cause of having a single-parent, and sibling order of the single-parent; (b) determine the level of self-esteem of the respondents; (c) determine the level of self-esteem of the respondents in terms of cause and number of years of having a single-parent; and (d) determine if there is a significant relationship between the demographic profile and the self-esteem of the respondents. This study was conducted at Trece Martires City National High School from November 2006 to January 2007. The study used the total population of first year students with single-parent of Trece Marrtires City National High School. Out of eight hundred eighty seven (887) first year students, there were eighty one (81) first year students with single-parent. • The preliminary Information Questionnaire and Self-esteem Inventory were used to determine if having a single-parent family affects the self-esteem of the respondents. The study revealed that most of the first year students with single-parent of Trece Martires City National High School were male. The majority of single-parent of the respondents was female. The main reason of these students for having a single-parent was separation of their parents. Most of first year students in Trece Martires City National High School were having a single-parent for about one to five years. The largest numbers of single-parent of these students were high school graduates and most of their single-parents were middle child. It was revealed that majority of first year students with single-parent of Trece Martires City National High School have average level of self-esteem. It also shows that majority of the respondents have average level of self-esteem in accordance to the cause and number of years of having a single-parent. This confirmed that most of the respondents' level of self-esteem was not negatively affected by having a single-parent family. The results indicate that cause of having a single-parent has a significant relationship with the self-esteem of the respondents. The result showed that gender of the single-parent, number of years of having a single-parent, educational attainment of the single-parent, and sibling order of the single-parent has no significant relationship with the self-esteem of the respondents.
