Abstract: ANAHAW, MANILYN A. AND HIZOLE, RIZZA M. Design and Construction of an Automated Sugar Palm Syrup Maker. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. Advisers: Ms. Poinsettia A. Vida and Mrs. Fe N. Dimero. The Design and Construction of an Automated Sugar Palm Syrup Maker was conducted at Langkaan I, Dasmarifias Cavite from June 2007 to February 2008. The machine was tested and evaluated at the Cavite State University from February 8 to 14, 2008. The general objective of the study was to design and construct an automated syrup maker. Specifically, it aimed to design and construct a control unit of the syrup maker; design a ladder diagram that will control the machine's operation; design and fabricate a sugar palm syrup maker; test and evaluate the functionality of the machine; and determine its cost. The machine was composed of 24V- 5A Power Supply, FXON Programmable Logic Controller, ceramics band heater, stainless container, temperature controller, speed controller, DC geared motor, DC geared brushless motor, LED's and push buttons. The syrup maker perform its designed functions through the programmable logic controller (PLC) which controls the operations. The PLC was programmed using the Ladder Logic. The machine automatically heats the sap and maintains a 100°C temperature. The syrup maker can produce three types of syrup, the light, medium and heavy. The syrup is heated and stirred until it has attained the desired degree Brix. The sap is drained automatically through the valve run by a DC geared motor.
