Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2012. Adviser: Engr. Efren R. Rocillo. The study was conducted to come up with a design and develop a pedal and electric (Pedelec) Bike. The details of the design were plotted using CADD, Construction of Pedelec bike included one motor, one generator, four 12V lithium-ion batteries, twist throttle, head light, charge controller, and a speed controller. The motor was assessed to determine the size and specifications by computing the power required to move the bike forward the bike in uphill and acceleration. The required power to move forward was determined by computing the rolling resistance, air resistance and the force of gravity as vehicles move. The generator specification was determined by computing the power output of the generator. The size of the battery was determined depending on the required voltage of the motor. The charging and discharging time of the battery was determined by computing the time required to charge the battery and discharge time of battery respectively. A 2300 rpm speed of the generator is enough to generate electricity to the battery when the bicycle was at the speed of 10kph. A 10Ah with a depth of discharge of 20 percent of battery can supply 250 watts of motor. Test and evaluation of Pedelec bikes were done in stationary position and travelling with friction of ground. The total cost of the study was Php. 31, 285.00.
