Abstract: CRUZ, JENEVA D. AND SILAN, MIAMI ANNE It, Evaluation of Oil-based Liniment Produced from Ginger (Zingiber officinale). A Research Study (General Science Curriculum). Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Adviser: Dr. Adelaida E. Sangalang. This study "Evaluation of Oil-based Liniment Produced from Ginger" was conducted in Tambo Kulit, Indang, Cavite to determine the a) odor of the produced oil-based liniment from ginger; b) level of effectiveness of the produced oil-based liniment from ginger; c) general acceptability of the produced oil-based liniment from ginger; and d) shelf-life of the produced oil-based liniment from ginger. Sixty respondents were chosen purposively to evaluate the odor, level of effectiveness and general acceptability of the produced liniment. The researchers used descriptive analysis to determine the acceptability of the produced oil-based liniment from ginger in terms of effectiveness, odor and general acceptability. The ginger was chopped, grinded and extracted. The ginger extract was placed in a basin until the white component settled. The white component that was taken was mixed with Methyl Salicylate and was cooked. After cooling, the mixture was filtered using muslin cloth and the oil extracted was again placed in the basin. The liniment was produced and was distributed to the corresponding respondents for them to evaluate. Findings showed that the odor of the liniment produced from ginger was generally described as "Moderately Strong". In terms of level of effectiveness, it was evaluated as "Moderately Effective (Relief within 10 to 20 minutes)". In terms of general acceptability, the respondents described it as "Acceptable". On the other hand, the researchers observed that the liniment can last up to four weeks.
