Abstract: ROSEMA, KRYSTLE JOY B. Debt Management of Market Vendors in Selected Towns of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Financial Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. November 2012. Adviser: Prof Estrellita D. Corpuz. The study aimed to describe the socio-demographic profile of the market vendors in selected towns of Cavite in terms of age, gender, and civil status; describe the socio-economic profile of market vendors in selected towns of Cavite in terms of products sold, years of operation, initial capital and monthly net income; describe the different sources of capital of the market vendors; describe the kinds of lending institutions where the respondents borrow their capital; describe the loan characteristics granted to market vendors in selected towns of Cavite as to amount of loan received, interest on loan, payment term and loan maturity; describe the debt management practices used by market vendors; determine the relationship between types of market vendors and debt management practices and determine the relationship between types of market vendors and amount of loan. The respondents of the study were the 98 market vendors from selected towns/city of Cavite namely: Tagaytay City, Mendez and Alfonso. Descriptive statistical tools such as frequency count, mean, percentage and range were used in presenting and analyzing the socio-economic profile of the respondents. Likert scale was used to describe the sources of capital, the lending institutions where the respondents borrow and the loan characteristics granted to market vendors. Non-parametric test like chi-square was used to determine the relationship between types of market vendor and debt management practices. Results show that majority of the respondents' ages ranged from 30 to 39. Most of the respondents were married and sold vegetables or fruits. Forty two percent of the respondents operated their stores five years or below. The initial capital of the respondents ranged from Php1000 to Php1,000,000 and 37 percent of the respondents earned maximum amount of Php5000 in a month. Respondents' source of capital was from loans. Among the respondents, 54 percent obtained their loans from Indian lenders also known as "5'6 or Bumbays". Forty-six percent of the market vendors' loans ranged from Php1000 to Php9999. Interest on loans of the respondents ranged from 19.1 percent and above (55%). Most of them paid their debts daily which constituted thirty-six percent. Half of the respondents' loan matured in 1 — 3 months. Seventy-one percent of the respondents used scheduling as debt management practice. The results show that there were significant relationship between the types of market vendors and debt management practices such as payment stretch and provide acceptable credit term. Nevertheless, the study accepted the null hypothesis, that there is no significant relationship between types of market vendor and debt management practice, in terms of scheduling. The types of market vendors and the amount of loans acquired by vendors were significantly related.
