Abstract: ROMEA, LEOPOLDO A JR. and SIDAMON, MARK JAY B., Applied Research Ill (General Science Curriculum), Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, March 2000. “EXTRACTION OF OIL FROM AVOCADO SEEDS”. Adviser: Prof. Divinia Chavez. The study entitled “Extraction of Oil from Avocado Seeds” was conducted at the Laboratory Room of Physical Science and Animal Science Department from January 2000 to February 2000. This study was conducted for the following reasons: 1) extract oil from avocado seeds; 2) determine the amount of oil obtained from avocado seeds; and 3) determine the physical and chemical properties of the oil. A brownish fixed oil having a pleasant odor and insipid taste was obtained from avocado seeds which is known as Persia americana Mill. The physical and chemical Properties of the oil are the following: specific gravity = 0.914; refractive index = 1.460; boiling point = 79°C; acid value = 6.35; saponification no. = 189. The oil was very soluble in carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and benzene. It was slightly soluble in ether and ethyl alcohol and the oil in water was insoluble.
