Abstract: RODIL, LEAHLYN C. Design and Construction of Kaong Syrup Dispensing Machine. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Prof. Jaime Q. Dilidili. The Sugar Palm Research and Information Trade (SPRINT) center has no existing dispensing machine that can be used in kaong syrup. This study aimed to satisfy the specific design and materials to consider in constructing the machine. The study was conducted from August 2013 until March 2014 in Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to: a) construct a dispensing machine based on the design concepts; b) evaluate the performance of the machine in terms of volumetric flow rate, viscosity, density and noise emission level as affected by the total soluble solids of the syrup and type; c) characterize the color of molded syrup of auger used; and d) perform a cost analysis of the machine. Various designs were considered to arrive in the final configuration of the machine. These include the construction, description of the machine according to its different assembly and the principle of operation which define the functionality of the machine. The performance of the machine is evaluated in terms of the combination of types of augers, namely, ribbon type and rounded spiral auger; and three types of Total Soluble Solid (TSS) concentration, 80, 83 and 85 degrees Brix (°B). As a result, ribbon type auger is most accurate to use rather than rounded spiral auger due to its ability to convey the types of TSS concentration in a short period of time. Noise level emitted by the machine still in the standard range.
