MOJICA, SHARINA M., PENUS, ELYSSA JEAN P., SANCHEZ, IMMA CONCEPTION B., EFFECTS OF ASITABA TEA (Gynuraprocumbens) TEA AS A TREATMENT AGAINST HYPERGLYCEMIA IN RABBITS (Oryctolaguscuniculus). Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, College of Nursing, Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Adviser Dr. Annie Mojica-Ramos.
The study, Effects of Asitaba (Gynura procumbens) Tea as a Treatment AgainstHyperglycemia in Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The study was conducted at the Department of Medical Technology, College of Nursing from June to September 2012 in Indang, Cavite. It aimed to determine the hypoglycaemic effect of Asitaba tea in rabbits, determine if Asitaba tea can be as effective as the commercially available drugs for hyperglycemia and compare the hypoglycaemic effects of Asitaba tea in the blood glucose level of rabbits.
Four male rabbits and sixteen female rabbits were used in the study with weights ranging from 1.6 kg to 3.2 kg. members each. The rabbits were grouped into five with four members each and administered with different treatments. One group was given 10 mg per kg of metformin served as the positive control.
The study showed no difference with the results obtained from the positive group therefore, the treatments were all effective and can be utilized as an alternative and cheaper way to cure and/or prevent hyperglycemia. The suggested treatment is 250 ml of tea with one tablespoon of Asitaba leaves because it is economically friendly.
