Abstract: BESA, DENARD KEVIN C. Contribution of Micro and Small Enterprises to the Development of Selected Cities within Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Cavite State University. March 2013. Adviser: Dr. Elizabeth E. Polinga. The study was conducted from November 2012 to February 2013 in selected cities in Cavite, namely: Dasmaririas, Imus, and Bacoor. The study was conducted to determine the contribution of micro and small scale enterprises (MSEs) to the development of selected cities in Cavite. The study aimed to determine the profile of micro and small enterprises; determine the demographic profile of micro and small entrepreneurs; determine the contribution of micro and small enterprises within the cities; determine the contribution of the respondents to the total income, tax revenue, and employment; and determine if there is a significant difference between the income of the selected participants before and after the establishment of their business. Descriptive statistical tools such as frequency count, mean, range, and percentage were used in presenting and analyzing the data gathered. Average and proportion was used to determine the contribution of MSEs to the total income, tax, and employment of the three cities, T-test was used to determine if there a significant difference between the income before and after establishment of business. The study revealed that all participants were sole proprietors, most were operating between 5 -- 9 years, female, and married individuals generally owned the MSEs. Furthermore, most participants were middle aged entrepreneurs, and were college graduates. Only few were able to attend trainings and seminars. Overall, the contribution of the business to the individual portrayed a great positive effect upon the individuals. Contrary to this, the contribution of the business to the household of the entrepreneur has a minimal effect or could hardly be felt by the households. The contribution of the MSEs to their cities in terms of total income, total tax revenue, and total employment were also determined, MSEs were responsible for the 32 percent of the total income of the three cities, eight percent of the total tax revenue came from the MSEs, and approximately 93 percent of the total employment came from the MSEs. The percentage difference of income before and after the establishment of business was 27 percent, therefore making these MSEs profitable enough for an entrepreneur.
