Abstract: Irog, Je-ann H., Manuel, Justine Mari M., Ramos, Katrina Angeli T., Applied Research Ill, General Science Curriculum, Science I-high school, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, "Production of Handmade Paper Heliconia psittacorum Stalks”. Adviser: Ms. Evalyne Rodriguez The study entitled "Production of Handmade Paper from Heliconia psittacorum Stalks" was conducted in July 2004 to January 2005 at Mangas Alfonso, Cavite. The general objective of the study was to produce handmade paper from the stalks of Heliconia psittacorum plant. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the possibility of using Heliconia psittacorum stalks in producing handmade papers, evaluate the characteristics of the produced paper, and identify the best treatment in making handmade paper using Heliconia psittacorum stalks. The study was arranged in a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments replicated ten times. The treatments were Tl (500 gm Heliconia psittacorum pulp + 50 gm starch dissolved and cooked in 750 ml of water) T2 (500 gm Heliconia psittacorum pulp + 100 gm starch dissolved and cooked in 750 ml of water) T3 (500 gm Heliconia psittacorum pulp + 150 gm starch dissolved and cooked in 750 ml of water). The produced papers were evaluated at Forest Product Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) in the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UP LB). A device called Mullen Burst Tester was used to determine the burst of the produced paper. The Mitutuyo Digital Thickness Tester was used to determine the thickness of the produced paper. The Elmendorf Tear Tester was used to determine the tear of the produced paper.
