Abstract: JALINA, MARY JANE R. Exposure to Information Materials and SSS Membership. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication major in Journalism. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Ms. Lisette D. Mendoza. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the level of exposure of selected SSS new members to information materials and the type of SSS membership that has the greatest number of registered members. Specifically, it aimed to; 1. determine the level of exposure to SSS information materials of selected new members of Social Security System; 2. determine the with the greater number of registered members between voluntary and self-employed membership; 3. and determine if there is a significant relationship between the level of exposure of new SSS members to SSS information materials and the type of SSS membership that has the greatest number of registered members. It was conducted from November to March, on the second semester of the Academic Year 2013-2014. Data were gathered from 50 new registered self-employed and voluntary members of Social Security System — Manila and Tagaytay offices. The researcher used a descriptive-survey approach. Frequency and percentage count with ranking, mean and standard deviation, and correlation coefficient were used to statistically analyze the data gathered. Participants on this study were moderately exposed to print, broadcast, and new media information materials and were highly exposed to interpersonal communication or word of mouth information materials. Moreover, voluntary members has the greatest number of registered members than the self-employed. Most of the voluntary members are separated members and most of the self-employed members are self-employed professional. Results showed that the broadcast media, both radio and television, is significant to the participants' level of exposure yet moderately exposed to it, may be because broadcast media are widely used by the participants and they get more information from it but not really affect their decision in affiliating to SSS. Most of the participants were voluntary registered Social Security System members. Research shows that majority of the participants were voluntary members of SSS. Lastly, there is no significant relationship between the level of exposure to information materials of new registered members and type of SSS membership.
