Abstract: MAHEL, THANKGOD AMUKELE, Dispositional Optimism, Social Support and Psychological Well-Being Level of Nursing, Medical Technology, and Midwifery Students at Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Cavite State University December 2016. Thesis Adviser: Mr. Renato T. Agdalpen. It has been believed for many decades that the state of one's psychological well-being can be measured or ascertained when there seems to be an absence of mental or emotional disturbances (Ryff, 1989). This assertion does not account for situational factors because there is hardly any individual without some form of psychological or emotional interruptions. Regardless, people still report a favorable level of psychological well-being. It is usually conceptualized as some combinations of positive affective states such as happiness (the hedonic perspective) and functioning with optimal effectiveness in individual and social life (the eudemonic perspective) (Winfield, Gill, Taylor, & Pilkington, 2012). Psychological well-being is also a state of affairs and combination of being happy while psychological, sociological situations seem under control with feelings of reported happiness, capability, satisfaction with life, and feelings of one, who has been supported and cared about (Huppert, 2009). This study aimed to discover through exploration the role of dispositional optimism, social support, and psychological well-being of selected College of Nursing students at Cavite State University during Academic Year 2016-2017. Additionally, it aimed to determine the sources they best derive the social support. Descriptive quantitative research methods design and stratified sampling technique as research design and sampling technique. The study was conducted among 179 Nursing, Medical Technology and Midwifery students in the College of Nursing. Optimism/Pessimism Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Ryff Scales of Psychological Well-being were used to measure the dispositional optimism, social support level, and psychological well-being of the participants. The statistical treatments used in this study were mean, frequency, standard deviation, correlation coefficient, and Spearman rank order correlation. Results revealed that participants scored low optimism and high on pessimism respectively. Findings also revealed that participants specifically scored very high in social support. In addition, the result further showed that the participants scored high on significant others, family, and friends (peers). Moreover, the results equally revealed that the participants scored high in the psychological well-being. There was a significant correlation between social support and the six factors of the Ryff psychological well-being of the participants except for autonomy. Hence, there was no significant correlation between dispositional optimism and psychological well-being. Therefore, judging from the low percent score in optimism and high percent score on pessimism, the present study recommends the college/university to foster optimism level of students by designing and improving programs thereby reducing the high level of pessimism and consequently improve their psychological well-being.
