The study was conducted from September to May S.Y. 2016 - 2017. The study aimed to compare and assess the variables that determine the level of job performance and employee engagement of academic personnel in private and public universities and colleges.

Specifically the study sought to determine the demographic characteristics of academic personnel on private and public universities and colleges in terms of: age,
gender, civil status, work status, work experience, and educational attainment, also the Study want to determine the level of job performance of the academic personnel on private and public universities and colleges as evaluated by their supervisor (Department Chairperson) and by the students; determine the level of engagement of the academic personnel of private and public universities and colleges as evaluated by themselves, determine the significant relationships on job performance and demographic profile and between employee engagement and the demographic profile of the academic personnel on private and public universities and colleges and also; determine the significant differences in the levels of performance and employee engagement of the academic personnel between private and public universities and colleges. The participants of this study were the academic personnel of a selected academic institution in Cavite. The researcher used non-probability sampling techniques specially convenience sampling and simple random sampling technique to determine the schools, academic personnel and students that served as the respondents of the study. The study used primary data to attain the objectives of the study. These were gathered from 290 participants through a survey questionnaire. The data were sorted out, tallied, organized and tabulated. Statistical test such as frequency, percentage, range, mean and standard deviation were used.

The study found out that selected demographic characteristics of the academic personnel showed a significant relationship towards the level of performance and level of engagement.

At the same time, it shows that the academic personnel in private universities have higher levels of performance and are highly engaged compared to the public universities and colleges.
