This study was conducted to find out the following: (1) socio-economic characteristics of coffee farmers (2) practices followed in managing the coffee farms and (3) problems and difficulties encountered in operating the farm. This study was conducted in the Poblacion of Mendez, Cavite and its five barrios. The respondents were taken by the use of simple random sampling. A total of 100 farmers were used as samples. The average age of farmers was 47 years. The average number of dependents per farmer was six persons. Almost all the respondents were owner-operators. The average year formal schooling of farmers was six years. The farmers were engaged in farming for more than 20 years. The average size , the mean gross of farm under cultivation was 1.4 hectares. income of farmers was 6,760.00 annually with P3,930.00 as gross income from coffee. Majority of the farmers planted Robusta coffee while some planted both Robusta and Excelsa. applied in broadcast once-a-year. One hundred percent practiced weeding and priming and 50 percent practiced pruning. The primary problem of coffee farmers was the lack of supply of fertilizer. Prevalence of pests and diseases and low prices offered by buyers were secondary problems, Fertilizers was of as well as lack of capital and improper management. A coffee farmer spent on the average #270.66 in producing coffee. Majority of the cost of production went to the cost of fertilizer.
