This study was conducted to know the system of marketing cattle in the Alfonso livestock Market and to provide the cattle raisers with valuable information about the trading practices observed in an auction market. A total of 10 respondents and a market technician were personally interviewed with the aid of a prepared questionnaire. Cattle came from the towns of Cavite and Batangas. Beef type ranked first in cattle auctioned. There was an average of 140 cattle per market day wherein only 70% were disposed. Time of marketing cattle varied depending on the financial need of the raiser or on the condition of the animal. Sellers were of two kinds, the raiser, and the middle- man. A raiser reared the cattle himself while a middleman had the cattle in a purchase from the raisers. The middleman who had direct contact with the buyers fully controlled the prices of cattle and market activities. Some of the problems encountered by raisers were the presence of too many middlemen, their ignorance on the price estimate based on the body weight of the animals, inadequate information about the current prices of cattle and very little knowledge on sales dealings with the buyers.
