The study, "Response of IR-42 Rice Variety to Varying Rates of Commercial Fertilizers” was conducted at the experimental field of Mr. Martiniano Sangria in Dasmariñas, Cavite from November to March 1979. This aimed to test the performance of IR-42 Rice Variety at varying levels of fertilizers and specifically to deter- mine what level of commercial fertilizer would give maximum yield to IR-42 Rice Variety. A field with an area of 210 square meters was divided into three equal blocks following the randomized complete block design. Each block was subdivided into seven plots. The field was prepared by plowing it once and harrowing it twice. Transplanting was done twelve days after sowing. Two to three healthy seedlings were transplanted per hill at the space of 20 x 20 centimeters. One week after trans- planting, missing hills were replanted. Results showed that the fertilized plants grew vigorously and gave higher yield than the unfertilized ones. The plants fertilized with the rate of 90+30+0 produced the highest grain yield, number of tillers, number of panicles and height of plants among other treatments.
