ALANO, JAN MICHAEL L., NOVERO, BRYLL DEXTER., SIERRA, RON RENZ R. Utilization of Different Amount of Lakatan Banana Peel Starch as Component of Bioplastic. Research Study (General Science Curriculum), Science High School, Collge of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, May 2018. Adviser: Dr. Julio Alava.
Bioplastic using banana peel starch was conducted at the researchers' residence at Barangay II, Indang, Cavite from October 2017 to April 2018, using the method of Green Bioplastic by Brandon Sweeney. The objectives of the study were to: (1) determine the properties of the produced bioplastic using different amount of banana peel starch. (2) determine the significant differences on the properties and acceptability of the produced bioplastic using different amounts of banana peel starch; (3) determine the significant differences on the properties and acceptability of the produced bioplastic using different amounts of banana peel starch and corn starch.
The banana peel starch and the other ingredients were placed in a pan and stirred. The produced mixture was then heated and stirred continuously. Then the mixture was spread in an aluminum foil and was sun dried. Then it was scraped off the aluminum foil. Based on the results the average sensory properties among three treatments in terms of color is brown, in terms of texture is moderately smooth, in terms of transparency is translucent. In terms of physical properties, Treatment 3 was shown to be the most durable and thickest. The sensory properties and general acceptability were highly significant different among treatment while the physical properties in terms of durability was highly significant different among the treatment. No significant difference was observed on the thickness of bioplastic in all treatment.
