This study was conducted from November 2017 to March 2018 in Trece Martires City Cavite to determine challenges encountered by parents whose children are engaged in online gaming and its Implications to Social Work practice in working with families. ." This study aimed to determine the characteristics of the parents of online garners whose children are engaged in online gaming in terms of the age of their children, and educational attainment of their children; Identify the challenges encountered by parents in terms of school/ academic performance of the children, the relationship of the children among their family member, and their perceived attitude towards their child; and determine the implications of online gaming to social work practice in working with family. Qualitative design was utilized in this study. An interview was conducted and the purposive sampling method was used to determine the challenges encountered by the said participants. And to reveal the responses in accordance to the objective of the study. Eight (8) parents served as participants in this study, which were selected purposively.
Majority of the children were seemed to be addicted to online games regardless of age, and educational attainment. This study reveals that due to the online games, children today becomes addicted to the online gaming that resulted to lose attention on academics causing them to low grades, they also become unproductive, lazy, and disrespectful that causes the family to have gap and miscommunication that also resulted to the different implications to social work practice in working with families. It is highly recommended that the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) of Trece Martires City, Cavite, create and implement programs and services that could improve the quality of services of the government to the youth especially to the children that are addicted to online games.
