This project was conducted at the Animal Production Project of Cavite Sate University (CvSU) Main Campus located in Brgy. Bancod, Indang, Cavite from June 1, 2018 to September 24, 2018. The project aimed to obtain managerial skills in hog enterprise, apply the lessons learned in school in actual operation and earn profit in the project.
The swine production project used four piglets that were purchased from a backyard hog raiser in Brgy. Pulo, Indang, Cavite, with an average initial body weight of 17.5 kg. The feeds were bought from Brgy. Lumampong, Indang, Cavite. On the first day of pre — starter phase until last day of starter phase, they were fed three times a day. On the grower phase up to marketing period, they were fed twice a day. After 102 days, the hogs weighed an average of 77.25 kg, with an average daily gain of 757.35 g. The hogs consumed an average of 193.75 kg of commercial feeds per head, giving an average of feed conversion efficiency of 2.51. The four hogs were marketed on dressed weight basis resulting to a total dressed weight of 296 kg. The price for dressed weight was P 160.00 per kilogram. The project had a total production cost P43,030.40, total sales of P 47,520.00, net income of P 4,489.60, return on investment of 10.43% and the break — even point of 67.23 kg.
