Accessibility analysis is an economical way in assessing the capacity of the population in availing the basic needs and services. Transportation, population and location of facilities are considered in the evaluation. These factors the two core concepts of accessibility, location concept and distance concept.
The study was conducted in Lowland Cavite particularly the municipalities of Bacoor, Carmona, Dasmariņas, General Mariano Alvarez, General Trias, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario and Tanza, and cities of Cavite and Trece Martirez on the months of
July 2005 to February 2006 and was presented at College of Engineering and Information Technology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite on the 20th of February 2006.
Geographic Information System Software was used for the spatial dimension of the populace, barangays, town centers, road networks, and secondary educational facilities that developed administrative and access maps. Isochrone maps which shows areas where the travel time is equal aided the authors in recommending for the optimization of Lowland Cavite.
There are 212 secondary schools in Lowland Cavite, 177 are private schools while the remaining 35 are public schools. The region is currently experiencing high level of accessibility for secondary schools. 100 percent of the population can access the said facilities within 30 minutes.
Also the existing transport network is accessible by all the barangays and majority of the roads are paved with concrete and asphalt. There is also a wide variety of transportation modes and are mostly 24 hours available. Traffic serves as the main hindrance in accessing secondary educational facilities in this region.
A transportation planning and a full geographic accessibility analysis were achieved by the authors to satisfy the objectives of the study. The thorough evaluation provides a reference for future enhancement of secondary educational facilities in
Lowland Cavite.
