DEGUIT, ALJEAN D., DESEO, GLEN RUSSEL V., ESPINELI, GILLIAN R., MENDOZA, GILLYN V., VALENTINO, KLEYR ANN LOUI R., Swipe Right to Let It Out: Lived Experiences of Heterosexual Men Who Uses Online Dating Application as Their Emotional Outlet. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Adviser: Mary Joyce Talamante. Using qualitative research, this study explored the lived experiences of heterosexual men who use online dating application as emotional outlet. The researchers utilized a semi structured interview in which they have prepared a set of questions and let the conversation evolve independently. Heterosexual men were seen to be more manly, strong like they do not cry and such than a woman. But most of the time, heterosexual men need to feel like home too. Heterosexual men need someone to talk to, they need an outlet where they can share something personal. The results are discussed further. To begin with, these heterosexual men found an outlet where they have the ability to choose who they wanted to talk to through using dating application. These people choose to share their emotions and feelings with someone they do not personally know, or simply strangers. The purpose of this study was to know better and understand the lived experiences of heterosexual men who uses online dating applications as their emotional outlet. ;The main objective of this study was to explore the lived experiences of heterosexual men who use dating apps to release their emotions, understanding of their perception toward the use of dating application as an outlet to their emotions, and how did they give meaning to their experiences. Through this research study it was found that the heterosexual men found it more comfortable to talk with a stranger regarding their personal problems rather than to talk to someone personally close to them. Moreover, it was also observed that these heterosexual men are alright to release or burst their emotions even though they are tough-looking outside. Also, they feel free every time they share their thoughts and feelings and it does not feel like they have to filter what they want to share because they are completely strangers to each other. Heterosexual men do not feel invalidated nor being judged when they are talking to a stranger and they feel kind of shy if they share their thoughts with someone, they are close to. Furthermore, for other researchers who want to pursue this research, the current researchers highly recommend to find participants who are qualified for the characteristics or heterosexual men who have been using online dating application for more than or at least two years due to the fact that it may vary from those heterosexual men who just use dating application recently and do not even have the chance to share their personal problems, emotions and feelings.
