The study was conducted from January to February 2019 in the selected private schools in the 5th district of Cavite, namely: Infant Jesus Academy, Cavite Institute, Grace Baptist Christian School, My Messiah School, Zion Academy, and Saint Anthony De Carmella Academy. The general objective of the study was to identify and determine the risk tolerance and willingness to avail income protection insurance of teachers in selected private schools in 5th District of Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to (1) determine the socio-demographic profile of private school teachers in terms of age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, income, and length of service; (2) identify the level of risk tolerance of teachers towards the income protection insurance; (3) determine the level of willingness of teachers in availing income protection insurance; (4)ascertain if there is a significant difference in the risk tolerance when the teachers are grouped based on their socio-demographic profile and; (5) ascertain if there is a significant difference in the willingness to avail income protection insurance when teaches are grouped based on their socio-demographic profile. Descriptive and comparative research design were used in the study.
There were 137 private teachers who participated in the study. The statistical treatment used in the study were frequency count, range, mean, and percentage. Kruskal-Wallis was used to describe the significant difference between socio-demographic profile of teachers, their risk tolerance, and willingness to avail income protection insurance. The results showed that the majority of the participants were young, single, and college graduates. Majority of the participants were female and rendered service from 1 to 6 years. Most of them received a monthly income ranging from P9,020 to P14,319.
The overall level of risk tolerance of private teachers was interpreted as moderate which means that the private teachers was willing to accept moderate amount of risk in exchange of average return potential. While the overall level of willingness to avail income protection insurance of private teachers was interpreted as moderate or somewhat willing which means that the private teacher was likely to acquire income protection insurance but cannot decide yet either it is essential or not.
There was no significant difference between the risk tolerance and socio- demographic profile in terms of age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, monthly income, and length of service. On the other hand, there was a significant difference between the willingness and socio-demographic profile of private teachers in terms of their civil status and length of service. The researcher also recommends private teachers to attend seminars, counseling, and training.
The researcher also encourages them to consult with the financial advisor, so they have enough knowledge in investment, and insurance
