The study determined the perceived parenting style and interpersonal values and its relation to each other among selected students of Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite.
Specifically, this study sought to 1) determine the level of perceived parenting style of the respondents in terms of: authoritarian, permissive and democratic parenting styles; 2) determine the level of interpersonal values of the respondents in terms of support, conformity, recognition, independence, benevolence and leadership; and 3) determine if there is a significant relationship between perceived parenting styles and interpersonal values of the respondents.
The study used the descriptive correlation method to find out if there is a significant relationship between perceived parenting styles and interpersonal values. The respondents were gathered through the use of stratified random sampling. A total of 220 respondents from selected courses were covered by the study. The courses were: Bachelor of Science in: 1) Criminology; 2) International Studies; 3) Environmental Science; 4) Recreational Management; 5) Applied Mathematics; 6) Biology; 7) Medical Technology; 8) Developmental Management; Bachelor of Arts in: 1) English; and 2) Political Science; and Diploma in Midwifery. Frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used in determining the perceived parenting styles as well as the interpersonal values of the respondents while then spearman rank correlation coefficient was used in determining the significant relationship between perceived parenting styles and interpersonal values of the respondents
Results revealed that most of the respondents prefer the democratic parenting style as it is being adopted by their parents. In determining the interpersonal values, the results revealed that most of the respondents rate a description of mostly important conformity while support, recognition, and benevolence, and support were rated with a high level of importance. Among the interpersonal values, leadership and independence were given low importance by the respondents. To summarize, most of the respondents put high level importance in interpersonal values. The results also revealed that there is no significant relationship between the perceived parenting styles and interpersonal values of the respondents.
