The study on the energy demand pattern of smoked fish Industry in Cavite was conducted in Cavite from October to December 1998. The general objective of the study was to determine the energy demand pattern of the smoked fish industry in Cavite.
The respondents' ages ranged from 20 to 64 years old with an average of 43 years. Sixty-one percent of the respondents reached secondary education. Majority of the respondents was owners who also worked as laborers and considered smoked fish production as their main source of income.
The results indicated that the respondents processed an average of 201.8 kilograms of fish per day and used 19.664 kg or 3.5 sacks of wood shavings per day for smoking, and 55.58 kg or seven sacks or rice hull per day for brine cooking. The operation requires an average of four laborers per day with a labor cost of P 120 each and 8 to 10 hours of operation per day.
Based on the computations made, the estimated average annual income of the respondents for smoked fish production was P255, 558 per year, which is enough to support the financial needs of the respondents with an average number of four dependents each.
