BAUTISTA, KLARISSE A. Exploring Family Communication in Selected Films Tanging Yaman and Filipinas. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Major in Journalism. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2010. Adviser: Ms. Cristina Signo.

The study was conducted at the Cavite State University, Indang Cavite from January to March 2010 to analyze the films Tanging Yaman and Filipinas.

The study aimed to answer how husband-wife relationship, parent-children relationship and sibling relationship in terms of authority and decision making were presented in the films tanging Yaman and Filipinas.

A thematic table was used to identify the scenes of husband-wife relationship, parent-children relationship and sibling relationship in terms of authority and decision making those relationships were further analyzed.

Thirty-one (31) scenes that show husband-wife relationship, parent-children relationship and sibling relationship in terms of authority and decision making were identified from Tanging Yaman, while 29 scenes were picked out from the film Filipinas.

The study used scenes as the primary basis in determining how family communication was presented in husband-wife relationship, parent-children relationship and sibling relationship in terms of authority and decision making in Tanging Yaman and Filipinas.

Based on the study conducted, it was found that in a husband-wife relationship in terms of authority and decision making, the father was the one who is more dominant in the family. In parent-children relationships in terms of authority, it was found that there were different kinds of being a parent. Sometimes parents can understand their children but sometimes it shows not. In decision making, the patriarchal form prevailed since the father is still the dominant figure in the family. In sibling relationships, it was found out that in terms of authority and decision making the eldest one was more of the decision maker since he/she had more experiences in life which gave her respect from the younger ones.
