MANALO, ERICSON M. Level of Acidifier and Performance of Newly Weaned Piglets. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2005. Adviser: Dr. Pedro Q. Olabe.
A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of acidifier (Acid Plus@) on newly weaned piglets. Forty-eight 30 day-old Large White and Landrace piglets were randomly assigned to four treatments following a Completely Randomized Design. Piglets in Treatment 1, 2 and 3 were given feeds containing acidifiers (Acid Plus@) at 0.25 gram / 5 kilograms of feed, 0.50 gram/ 5 kilogram of feed and 0.75 gram/ 5 kilograms of feed, respectively. Piglets in Treatment 4 serve as control. Results show that the level of acidifier did not significantly (P>0.05) influence body weight, gain in weight, feed consumption, feed conversion efficiency. Result show of weaners over a I-month period, although those given 0.25 gram per 5 kilogram of feed appeared to perform better than those in the control.
The piglets fed with feeds without acidifier gave a higher income than those that were given feeds with acidifier. However, income for Treatments 1 and 2 was affected by mortalities.
