The experiment " Effect of Mulching Materials on the Growth and Yield of Hungbean Planted in Newly Harvested Rice Paddies" was conducted at the experimental area of the Research Department, Don Severino Agri-cultural College, Indang, Cavite from November 30, 1978 to February 17, 1979, The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mulching materials on the growth and yield of mungbean Cebu variety planted in newly harvested rice paddies. A field of 437 square meters was divided into different rows of four replications represented by five treatments. Plants planted in Treatment 3 (mulched with rice straw) and Treatment 4 (mulched with rice hull) were the only plants which formed pods and survived up to maturation stage. The pods produced from Treatment 3 were smaller and shorter than the pods produced in Treatment 4.
Plants plaited on Treatment 1 (control), Treatment 2 (mulched with dried leaves) and Treatment 5 (mulched with dried coconut leaves) were pale, weak and stunted in growth due to lack of moisture.
