The study determined the demographic profile and its relation to the parenting style of mothers of selected first year students of the College of Arts and Sciences in Cavite State University Don Severino de las Alas Campus Indang, Cavite AY 2006-2007. Specifically, this study sought to (1) determine the demographic profile of the respondents' mother (2) identify the parenting style used by mothers of respondents, and (3) assess the relationship of demographic profile and parenting style.
The study used the descriptive correlation method to find out if there is a significant relationship between demographic profile and parenting style of mothers. Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts and percentages were used in determining the demographic characteristics of the respondents' mothers, and chi-square test was used in determining the relationship between demographic profiles and parenting style.
The study covered one hundred forty (140) selected first year students of the College of Arts and Sciences in Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. The participants were asked to complete the demographic information sheet to gain basic information about the mothers. To know the parenting style, the adapted questionnaire by Santos (2005) was developed and validated to use in this study.
Results of the study revealed that the null hypothesis was accepted which means there is no significant relationship between the two variables except to the religious affiliation which appear to be a determinant of being a permissive mother.
