ANDAYA, JESSVANNY M. Profile of Local Government Unit-funded Scholarship Grantees in State Colleges and Universities of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Marketing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2009. Adviser: Prof. Iluminada R. Hernandez

The recent financial crisis had severely impacted our global economies, resulting in the increase of the number of out-of-school youth. The study was conducted in different State Colleges/Universities in Cavite. Generally, it aimed to describe the socio-economic characteristics of students availing LGU scholarship grants; determine the requirements needed; determine how the students maintain their scholarships; and to identify the problems encountered and suggest feasible solutions. Primary data were obtained through personal interviews with the aid of prepared questionnaires.

Other information were gathered from the records of the Office of Student Affairs of the respective schools. The study used statistical tools such as frequency counts, mean, percentage, and table in presenting and describing the results of the study. Majority of the LGU sponsored scholars belonged to the age group of 16 to 21 years old. Majority were female, only 25 percent of them were male, and majority were Roman Catholics. Most of the grantees belonged to the low income group and depended on personal savings to finance their education. Majority of the respondents came from public elementary and secondary schools. Majority of the respondents' mothers were aged 40 to 59 years.
