TOLEDO, KARLA T. Commercial Production of Roses at Island Rose Farm, Philippine Cut Flower Corporation. Farm Practice Report. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Horticulture. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2010 Adviser. Dr. Reynaldo C. Ersando.

A farm practice project entitled "Commercial Production of Roses at Island Rose Fanrn, Philippine Cut Flower Corporation" was conducted at the Island Rose Farm, Philippine Cut Flower Corporation, Brgy. Buck Estate, Alfonso, Cavite from December 03, 2009 to March 06, 2010. This project aimed to expose the student to real work situations and production practices of roses under a large-scale commercial production using greenhouse technology. Specifically, this aimed to gain knowledge and skills in the actual production of roses particularly in the use of greenhouse technology and postharvest technology, and describe greenhouse operation and management used in commercial production of roses.

The student was oriented and was given the chance to experience and develop practical skills in the commercial production of roses particularly in the use of greenhouse technology. The cultural management practices she performed include disbuddinWdispetalling, deshooting, thinning/pruning, proper sanitation, nutritional monitoring, monitoring and prevention of pests and diseases, foliar fertilization and harvesting. Likewise, post-harvest handling practices were also undertaken such as cold storage, sorting/grading and packing. Technical knowledge on greenhouse management including environmental monitoring as well as fertigation was also gained during the training.

The farm practice experience at the Island Rose Farm, Philippine Cut Flower Corporation provided the student relevant skills in commercial production of roses. It enabled the student to have some insights about being a professional which helped her develop good communication skills and desirable behaviour which could be of great importance for her future employment in the same venture.
