A study was conducted to identify the parenting style of parents with special children in terms of: authoritarian parenting style; authoritative parenting style; permissive parenting style. To know the problems encountered of parents with special children in terms of: emotional issues; educational issues; financial concerns, public/environment, and also to know the coping mechanism in terms of; problem oriented; emotion oriented; avoidance oriented, to determine if there is a significant miationship between the participants': parenting styles and coping mechanism; and Problems encountered and coping mechanism. The method that was utilized in the study was descriptive comparative conelational method to analyze the relationship between variables. Purposive sampling was used to select the participants. The participants of the study were 65 parents from the se--,ected barangay in Indang, Cavite. The researcher used Parenting Style Scale test, Problems Encountered test and F-COPES to find out the coping mechanism of the participants, likewise, the demographic profile was obtained from the personal data sheet attached in the questionnaire. Frequency, mean, percentage and Mann - Whitney U test and Kruskall Wallis lict were used in analyzing the data.
The study also revealed that all the parents with special children were using Authoritative parenting in rearing their special child. On the other hand, the majority of participants have a very minor problem when it comes to problems encountered experiencing to their special child. It was also revealed that a parent with special child has a very high level of coping mechanism in terms of emotion oriented and in avoidance coping.
Based on the study conducted, the null hypothesis revealed that there is a significant relationship on the coping mechanism of the participants to the parenting style used by the participants. While, there is also significant relationship in coping mechanism and problems encountered in terms of emotional issues, educational issues and in the social/environment issues of the participants.
