This study is aimed to determined: 1. parenting style as perceived by parents and students; 2. level of emotional intelligence of students in terms of perception of emotions, managing others emotions, managing own emotions, and utilization of emotions; 3. level of character traits of students in terms of honesty, courtesy, helpfulness and cooperation, resourcefulness and creativeness, consideration for others, sportsmanship, obedience, self-reliance, industry, cleanliness and orderliness, promptness and punctuality, sense of responsibility, love of God, and patriotism and love of country; 4. significant difference on the parenting styles perceived by the parents and students; and 5. significant relationship in terms of parenting style and emotional intelligence and parenting styles and character traits.
The overall study was conducted from January 2012 to July 2013, and the data was gathered using the survey instruments lifted by the researchers from a thesis conducted by Kathryn Elizabeth Cramer of Louisiana University. The two parts of survey questionnaires were composed of 62 items for parenting styles while 33 items for emotional intelligence questions that were utilized to gather the needed data. It was revealed that the perceived parenting style of both parents and students was authoritative with a mean score of 3.9242 for parents and 3.6848 for students with a verbal interpretation of very high. In terms of the emotional intelligence, the four domains was measured and having interpreted as a high average. In terms of the character traits, ten out of fourteen was interpreted and have rank as very good which goes between 85-88 percentage score.
Moreover it was found out that in correlation of parenting style to the two other variables; the authoritative parenting style has a very significant relationship to the emotional intelligence and to the character traits of the participants.
