The study aimed to determine and compare the differences in coping strategies of widower and widow parents in Imus, Cavite, and to determine its relationship to parenting style.
Specifically, it aimed to (1.) determine the gender of the respondents. (2.) determine the coping strategies use by the respondents in resolving crisis resulting from being widowed parent in terms of: (a.) appraisal-focused coping, (b.) emotion-focused coping, and (c.) problem-focused coping. (3.) determine the parenting style of the respondents in terms of: (a.) authoritative parenting, (b.) authoritarian parenting, and (c.) permissive parenting. (4.) determine the common stressful events that widowed parents usually faced. (5.) determine the relationship of: (a.) gender and parenting style, (b.) gender and coping strategies, and (c.) coping strategies and parenting style. (5.) determine if male and female parents have significant difference in coping strategies.
Descriptive-Correlational Comparative, Point-Biserial, Chi-Square and t-test were used in this study to determine the differences and relationship and to analyze the data of the study. Survey form of questionnaire was used to supplement the gathered data. The respondents of the study yielded total Of one hundred four (104) widowed parents from Imus, Cavite.
Based on the study conducted, respondents cope with problem-focused coping strategy, majority of them are practicing authoritative parenting style, and found out that school tuition/fees is the most stressful event for widowed parents.
The result of computed point-biserial revealed that there is no significant relationship between gender and coping strategies and there is no relationship between gender and parenting style. While the result of the computed chi-square between coping strategies and parenting style reveals that there is no relationship between the two variables. And last, the computed t-test reveals that widower and widow parents have no differences in coping strategies.
