The research is focused on the social interaction of physically abused children. The study was conducted in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite from June 2014 to January 2015.

Generally, the study aimed to: 1) classify the types of physical abuse that were commonly experienced by the participants; 2) determine how the participants socially interact immediately after being physically abused; 3) investigate how the participants socially interact before entering in the DSWD; 4) evaluate how the participants socially interact inside the DSWD; and 5) to describe the thoughts and feelings of the physically abused children.

The study utilized a qualitative research design. Qualitative research was intended to deeply explore, understand and interpret social phenomena within its natural setting. With the use of purposive sampling, there were five participants involved in this case
study. The interview questionnaire prepared by the researchers was the main instrument in getting the information.

Based on the result of the study, out of five (5) participants, three (3) of them experienced beating or hitting, and the rest of the participants experienced burning and punching from their caregiver. They also showed their positive outlook about their interactions with people around them. It was easy for them to share what they were doing. They just wanted to play with their friends and that was the only time they can feel that they were kids, they made sure that they got to see each other everyday just to play.

In addition, after they experienced being abused, all of the participants clearly showed that they had big changes on how they socially interact with other people. Every time their playmates invite them to play, they always decline. They were now avoiding their playmates. They preferred being left alone. They were scared that bad things would happen to them again. They do no longer trust the people around them. They came to a point where they no longer want to go out because they were ashamed of the marks left on their body, and the psychological effect of that person who had caused them. Further, their thoughts also changed. Based on the interview, they all wanted to have their own house and to have their own families someday. They also manifested a strong will to finish their studies so that they can have a decent job in the future. Despite all the things that happened to them, they see the brighter side of their lives, that one day everything will be better.
