The swine production project was conducted at the Animal Production Project of the Department of Animal Science, Cavite State University-Main Campus, Indang, Cavite from February 2 to April 30, 2017. The project was conducted to acquire entrepreneurial skills in hog fattening, provide the student with hands on experience in farm raising, determine the actual cost and returns of hog fattening based on the present market situation, and gain profit from hog fattening.
The animals were given the proper care and management during the 81 days rearing period. At the end of the project, the hogs with an average initial weight of 17.5 kg ended up with an average final weight of 72.75 kg. This means that the hogs gained an average weight of 55.25 kg. The average daily gain (ADG) computed was 682 g.
The hogs consumed a total of 600 kg of feeds with an average of 150 kg. The computed feed conversion efficiency was 2.71.
A total production cost of P29,730.00 was recorded. The gross sale computed was P36,495.00 and the net profit was P6,925.00. This resulted to a return of investment
(ROI) of 23.29 percent.
